The FLOATing DRAGON (Formulate, Lift, Observe, And Testing; Data Recovery And Guided On-board Node) Balloon Challenge (aka, FLOATing DRAGON) was developed to provide increasing opportunities for academic research institutions to contribute to NASA’s Science Mission Directorate’s (SMD) mission. Sponsored by NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility’s Balloon Program Office (BPO), the FLOATing DRAGON Balloon Challenge is open to teams of undergraduate and graduate college students who have an interest in aviation, ballooning, and guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C).
In partnership with the NASA Space Grant network and funded by the NASA Science Mission Directorate Science Activation program, the NEBP requests proposals from higher education institution faculty and/or other adult mentors to lead a team of students through a mission involving learning and stratospheric ballooning campaigns during the October 14, 2023 annular and April 8, 2024 total solar eclipses. NEBP requests proposals to 1) ensure potential teams are thinking about and planning for necessary participation actions and 2) capture essential agreements that allow us to grant substantial equipment, supplies, and support to participating institutions.
The New Hampshire Space Grant Consortium typically awards two fellowships per semester for research-based graduate study in NASA-related disciplines at the University of New Hampshire. NASA-related disciplines cover a broad spectrum of fields, including (but not exclusively): physics, space physics, astrophysics, science education, computer science, engineering, Earth science, and life sciences which utilize space technology and/or adopt a “planetary” view of the global environment.
NEW HAMPSHIRE SPACE GRANT CONSORTIUM (NHSGC) brings together NH's educational and scientific communities to foster public interest in science education, scholarship, and research. Funded by NASA, the consortium supports eight New Hampshire affiliate institutions and thousands of teachers, students, faculty, and citizens interested in the sciences, in space science, and in inspiring future scientists. Please note that as a training grant, any person receiving funding must be a U.S. Citizen.
